HAPPY EASTER Y’ALL!!

Easter is really an entire season of the Christian church year, as opposed to a single-day observance. Lent, the 40-day period leading up to Easter Sunday, is a time of reflection and penance and represents the 40 days that Jesus spent alone in the wilderness before starting his ministry, a time in which Christians believe he survived various temptations by the devil. The day before Lent, known as Fat Tuesday, is a last hurrah of food and fun before the fasting begins. The week preceding Easter is called Holy Week and includes Maundy Thursday, which commemorates Jesus’ last supper with his disciples; Good Friday, which honors the day of his crucifixion; and Holy Saturday, which focuses on the transition between the crucifixion and resurrection.  The 50-day period following Easter Sunday is called Eastertide and includes a celebration of Jesus’ ascension into heaven.

for those of you (like myself for many many years), didn’t know Easter’s true meaning.

Throwback of the day

KOJO FOUREVA

1) What do you do & how well do you do it?

This is pretty broad but I will just answer regarding my music.  I do music and I like to think I do it very well but I will let people decide what they think (although, I decide if I like something I do).

2) Where do you foresee yourself 12months from today?

Hmm…12 months from today?  I foresee myself preparing for a lot of festivals and going on a lot of TV and radio shows talking about my music!

3) What was one of the most memorable times in your life?

Let’s see, to me every day is memorable because I’m alive, healthy and not homeless but more specifically, seeing my video on TV. I was excited because I put in so much work to make it happen.  I don’t know about a lot of artist but I’m hands on with my whole career and seeing my video on TV was just an amazing feeling, I was proud of myself!

4) Given the resources, what one change would you make in the world & why?

Man, given the resources I don’t know how I would make only 1 change in the world but I’ll stick to the specifics of the question.  I would change world hunger and poverty (I think these are synonymous).  Because those 2 issues are pretty much the cause for a country being so called “third world”.  And if a country isn’t controlled by another country then they can actually focus on the needs of their citizens and don’t have to allow another country to rape them simply because they think they need what the other country has to force upon them!

5) What do you think of my daily blog? (Message for my readers)

I think the idea is pretty koo!

Hmm, message for your readers.  Regardless of where you are from or what your “race” is remember we are all humans and we all have feelings. If we treat each other like we want others to truly treat us we can make this place utopia! Some people will ignore that and some people won’t.

1)What do you do & how well do you do it?

I’m well versed in many areas. I’m what you would call a renaissance man. I love putting my all into everything from cleaning to singing; getting my hands dirty you know.

2) Where do you foresee yourself 12months from today?

Twelve months from now, I’d be more successful than I am today. That’s where I see myself. Comfortable.

3)What was one of the most memorable times in your life?

One of the most memorable times in my life was when a gang of us in my family, went on this bus ride sponsored by the Boys & Girls Club, to Disneyland. They rented the cheapest bus…that broke down on the way there, and it took us longer than expected. Naturally, parents were flipping out, it seemed, all the way to Florida. Overall, it was a hood-tastic experience!

4)Given the resources, what one change would you make in the world & why?

One change I would make in the world would be the state of the homeless. As per The World Richest Countries, the US is the richest country, so I do not see how we could endure homelessness the way we do.

5) What do you think of my daily blog? (Message for my readers)

I think your daily blog represents the person you are in raw form. You’re going to touch on areas where others are afraid to. No additives. No preservatives. Much success to you! x

1) What do you do & how well do you do it?

I’m a dj. It still sounds strange saying it after all these years. I’ve been really fortunate to turn a passion in to a career. I’ve also got a background in broadcasting and music journalism contributing to various radio shows, magazines and online sites. I do what I love and love what I do. It’s not for me to say how well I do it. Hopefully you’ll hear that from someone else.

2) Where do you foresee yourself 12months from today?

Absolutely no idea! I like it like that. One year ago I didn’t think I’d be here in Dubai. I’m loving life in the Middle East. I’ve lived in the US, Barcelona, Hong Kong, Brazil and travelled frequently. Scotland will always be home but I never seem to stay in one place for too long.

3) What was one of the most memorable times in your life?

Bizarrely enough three things came to mind instantly. Coming home to the smell of my late Mothers cooking. Laying on my back one night in a park watching the sky come alive with the sights or the Northern Lights and finally getting lost while out walking the sun went down and I found myself surrounded by thousands of fireflies in a forest.

4) Given the resources, what one change would you make in the world & why?

There was a song I heard here last year from a local band called Abri called Blanknotes. It was about what the world could be like if you erased currency. I liked that concept.

5) What do you think of my daily blog? (Message for my readers)

I love it looks great, lots of info, pics and video. Nice to see behind the scenes what you are up to. Would be great to catch you live again sometime soon though. Oh how about tome live video for your overseas fans?

What do you do & how well do you do it?

I’m a full-time professional musician, by way of violin, viola, and voice. I’m classically trained, but these days I specialize in jazz and funk. (laughing) And I hope I do this thing well . . . it’s how I make my living! Besides, Carlene, you’d know – we perform together! 😉 No seriously, I reached a point this year where I really started to get excited – people started to call me not just cause they wanted a violinist to fill the spot. They called me because they wanted ME, as an artist, to do MY thing that only I can do. And that’s a critical point. You can’t outsource, replicate, lay-off, or replace yourself. I’m beginning to see how this thing is really gonna go.

2)Where do you foresee yourself 12months from today?

Can I say on a beautiful beach in the Maldives with an umbrella-d drink in my hand curled up with my new hubby (laughing) but if I really have to nix that, I’ll say on the road with my band doin the thing. The album’s due up in a couple months.

3)What was one of the most memorable times in your life?

I remember the first time I stood onstage to try to do what I do now. I had never taken a solo before in front of an audience. In classical music, it’s all about control. In funk and soul, it’s all about letting go. I think I retched about three times backstage, and my musical mama (Ms. Lesa Terry from the all black Uptown jazz string quartet founded by the legendary drummer Max Roach) took my shoulders and said, “Girl – we need you out there. You can do this.” And I marched onstage with the band, and let loose with my violin and voice to the old blues tune of Stormy Monday which I still sing today. And I remember the FEELING. I remember having this startling moment of clarity on the stage, like, “Whoa – what was that?” And I believe, that when you are blessed enough to do what it is you are truly meant to do in this world, something in the universe just shifts and you feel this Knowing – that you are doing exactly what God intended you to do. And that was it. I was hooked. Forget the classical degree I had to finish, and the plans I had made to take the classical orchestra world by storm and be just another face in the machine – that was IT. The rest, as they say, is history. If you’d told me I’d be doing this today for my living 7 years ago, I would’ve hit you over the head with my violin bow!

C1

4) Given the resources, what one change would you make in the world & why?

I would make sure all our kids got the education they deserve. Why did our ancestors fight so hard for us to get the opportunity to have equal schooling, and the same books? Because if anybody knew the power of knowledge, it was a slave whom knowledge was kept from. I run two urban strings programs every week in the city. Our kids our stuck, between their crazy parental circumstances, burned out teachers, and a system that fails them. We’re not educating them about finances, communication, life skills, in the name of more testing that quizzes them on info they won’t retain past a month. It’s just plain wrong. And any community in the world can attest to the power (and demise) of not educating its children properly.

5)What do you think of my daily blog? (Message for my readers)

Love it! – always good to hear the truth from real artists making it one day at a time. . .  And you always make me laugh (you crazy Brit)!

1) What do you do & how well do you do it?

What I do is create a positive “inner environment” so that I can bring the best me possible to my endeavors. I start with a sense of gratitude for EVERYTHING; although I am not employed at this time, I’m grateful for my talents as a writer/editor/communicator and the opportunities those skills create for me to follow my passions. I believe I do this VERY well because despite the “news” about the state of the economy etc., I refuse to let it derail my attitude of gratitude.

2) Where do you foresee yourself 12months from today?

Twelve months from today, I see myself in a loving relationship with a wonderful man and I see myself in an occupation that is fulfilling and pays VERY well!

3) What was one of the most memorable times in your life?

One of the most memorable times in my life was when my father was alive and we were all hanging out in New Orleans at my brothers’ house. They lived in a humble, historic section called Treme that was so alive with music and down home New Orleans flavor. Their house was around the corner from a tiny but lively bar called Little People’s Place and the local musicians were jamming some blues and second-line tunes. I danced with my Daddy for the first time since I was a little girl and he was so excited about us all being together. He had two left feet, but he was glowing the whole time.

4) Given the resources, what one change would you make in the world & why?

One change I would make in the world is how food is produced and distributed. There’s no need for hunger ANYWHERE! I would change the profit-driven focus of food that is killing us and fattening the pharmaceutical industry; I would do this because so much dis-ease in our world can be traced to what we’re eating and how we’re eating it. I believe healthier food and food choices affect the way we think and develop. It’s easier to be at peace when you’re not constipated or malnourished.

5) What do you think of my daily blog? (Message for my readers)
